Our family's story started with a dad/grandfather who believed a haircut was about far more than appearance, it was about the conversation, community and making every person who sat in his chair feel valued. For decades, Barber Joe (Pop Pop) built lasting relationships, became part of his clients lives, and created a legacy rooted in craftsmanship, integrity and genuine care. As he prepared for retirement and the barber pole went dark and stopped spinning outside his shop in Lancaster, what he didn't know at that time that a new chapter was just getting ready to begin for his son and grandson. Inspired by everything he had built, a father and son shared a dream of carrying that legacy forward while creating something uniquely their own. Together they opened Joseph's Vintage Barbershop and Salon, a place where timeless barbering tradition meets modern salon artistry. Today, we proudly honor the values passed down through three generations while embracing today's techniques, education, and trends. From precision barbering and customized hair color to nail, skincare, lashes and massage therapy - we created a space where everyone can feel welcome, confident and cared for. I married my high school sweetheart. The job market in 1980 was not the best. So my father had a barbershop and he provided for the family very well through the years. I said well at least I will learn to do that since it is just 9 months of schooling until I decide what I really wanted to be when I grow up,” said the younger Ortega, who is currently a co-owner.
